Job Description
We’re looking for a unique Senior Engineering Manager with a strong technical background and prior coding experience to lead our technical teams. Our successful candidate will have experience in leading teams with responsibilities including requirement gathering, planning, release and lifecycle management, and overseeing cloud infrastructure. You are expected to recruit, hire and manage our software development team, with hands-on software design and development a must.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership of the software engineering team
- Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
- Collaborate with product management to develop and maintain technology and product roadmaps
- Recruit, onboard, and develop the engineering team members in order to meet current and future talent requirements

Requirements
- Strong desire to lead with passion and positivity
- 2+ years of work experience in a technology leadership role
- Significant experience building server-based products and/or SaaS platforms
- Bachelor’s degree/certification (or equivalent industry experience) demonstrating knowledge of computer science and software development
- Familiarity with one or more modern software language and methodology, preferably a mix of Javascript, Python, open-source technologies, and the AWS cloud environment

Key Responsibilities
- Intelligence Gathering & Analysis. Monitor and gather data from diverse sources (social media, news, radio, and weather outlets) to assess wildfire, flood, hurricane, and other disaster risks. Provide actionable intelligence and analysis on current and future impacts.
- Incident Mapping & Reporting. Use GIS and proprietary software to create incident maps, produce detailed reports, and provide situational updates to clients and stakeholders. Ensure accurate data management and assist in daily, monthly, and ad-hoc reporting.
- Emergency Response Coordination. Analyze incidents to determine immediate response needs, dispatch resources as required, and support on-the-ground operations during wildfire season and other emergencies.
- Communication & Liaison. Serve as a point of contact for clients, assisting with communication efforts, providing real-time updates, and generating after-action reports.
- Tech Support & Development. Assist with troubleshooting, quality control, and testing of proprietary software tools. Contribute to mobile app development, data analysis tools, and process improvement initiatives.
- Process Improvement. Contribute to the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flowcharts, and risk assessments that improve our overall response capabilities.
- On-Call and Surge Support. Be available to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, especially during wildfire season (May-November). Respond to surge staffing requests on short notice.
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in emergency management, GIS, intelligence analysis, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in emergency response or disaster management, particularly in wildland fire behavior, emergency services, or law enforcement.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar) and data manipulation, with the ability to rapidly learn new technologies and tools.
- Experience in data analysis, reporting, and professional writing.
- Understanding of agile software development and ability to work with development teams to enhance tools and workflows.
- Certifications such as I-100, I-200, and IS-700 (or similar) are a plus.
- Strong multitasking abilities, able to balance project work with real-time crisis response.
- Comfortable working remotely and independently, with strong self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure in high-stress situations.

RedZone Software is actively seeking a motivated, proactive individual to join our team as a Senior Software Engineer. This is an opportunity to be hands-on in the development of web-based tools which enable real-time disaster monitoring, collaborative mapping, and advanced statistical analysis of wildfire activity. This role requires a technically-competent and well-organized person who can work closely with our existing developers and analysts to develop, test, deploy, and maintain RedZone’s web applications.
