Trailhead Fire Summary
The Trailhead Fire started Tuesday afternoon (6/28) along the middle fork of the American River Canyon, south of Todd Valley on the Placer/El Dorado County line, and the fire quickly spread throughout the steep terrain of the canyon. In the three days since ignition, crews have found the area quite difficult to access. Firefighters have relied heavily on indirect line and aerial attack. There are mandatory evacuations in place for 2,600 threatened structures which includes communities along the nearby Sierra foothills. The fire is producing heavy smoke in the cities of Auburn and Lincoln, though so far there are no structures reported as damaged or destroyed as the fire has remained boxed in.

Trailhead Fire Outlook:
NorCal Interagency Incident Management Team 2 has command of the fire. The fire continues to burn in extremely steep, rugged terrain. Contingency lines, structure protection, and containment line construction remain the main focus of the fire crews. Due to the inaccessibility of the fire, officials may also conduct firing operations during favorable evening conditions to speed up containment. Weather conditions are predicted to remain roughly the same through the weekend, with upslope, up-canyon winds in the late morning through early evening, and downslope, down-canyon winds at night. In total, 1,992 firefighters and personnel are on scene to suppress the blaze.
